There are so many different beddings on the market today. They differ in materials, sizes, styles, designs, etc. One of the most popular sets is a comforter set. You might not know the difference between a duvet and a comforter, but we will talk about that little later.
One thing you should keep in mind, without proper maintaining, you are not going to be able to enjoy your oasis of peace. Like every other thing we possess, also the comforter set needs its own maintaining way. And that is the main topic we are going to talk about in this article.
Difference between a comforter and a duvet
For most people, a comforter and a duvet are the same things. But they are not. The main difference lay down in a fact that a duvet has a duvet cover and a comforter is designed to be on the top of all blankets and all bedding. A duvet is flatter than a comforter. A comforter is more fluffy and thick, usually filled with synthetic fiber filler, which is stitched or quilted and evenly distributed inside. It is used to keep you warm. For all people who prefer the layered look, it is a perfect choice.
A duvet can be filled with wool, feathers, or a synthetic alternative. It is soft, and it demands a cover. The bedding sets that include a duvet is originated in Europe, and it is a thermal insulator. If you prefer a duvet over a comforter, then you know that making your bed is much easier because it has fewer layers.
The basic comforter set includes a comforter itself and one or two pillowcases. Other sets can consist of (of course, a comforter), from two to four pillows cases, top sheet, fitted sheet, pillow shams, etc. Some may include a bed skirt as well.
How to maintain a comforter set
Regular maintenance and washing of linen are of high importance, both for our health and for cleanliness, pleasant scent, and prolongation of life span our comforter sets. You should clean (wash) your comforter set minimum two, and a maximum four times a year. Before you even start thinking about it, the first thing you must do is to check the tag that is placed on one of the four corners. There you will see all the instructions such as what water temperature, dryer temperature, etc. If it is written that it can be dry cleaned only, then you must contact the near dry cleaner in your city, don’t even think about cleaning it itself because you will destroy it.
Step # 1
Use a stain removal pen or spray to address any problem areas before washing the comforter. Adding an extra boost to stubborn stains is crucial to achieving optimum cleanliness. Also, be sure to check for any ripped seams or holes, and repair before washing to prevent the filling from coming out during the cleaning process.
Look for the stains, if you see any, use a stain removal spray or pen before you start washing it. Some stains cannot be removed in the washing machine only, so it requires special attention. While you are doing that, you can also look for holes or ripped parts. This step is essential because, if you put a comforter in the washing machine while skipping this step, you will experience the situation where a lot of fillings that were inside the comforter, now is all over the place in the machine. Never use bleach. If you don’t want to use a commercial stain removal, you can always make a paste made of home ingredients. You can mix baking soda and vinegar. It should look like a paste, 50-50. Apply it on the stain, and leave it like that for 15min. Then, you should use a white towel or a cloth and rub it for a while until the stain loosens, or it is almost loosened. Afterward, use a small amount of water to remove all the excess paste. And, in the end, don’t forget to remove all the water by squeezing it.
Step # 2
In this step, you should match the size of your comforter set (or the comforter itself only), and the washing machine. If you think that there is not enough room to fit it inside, then don’t do it. It will be compressed, and all the filling inside will not be distributed evenly anymore. In that case, you can always use the nearest laundromat.
Otherwise, check the label on it to see what water temperature you will need to set on the washing machine. Load it inside and spread it equally. Set the delicate program and the needed water temperature. Add your favorite detergent for delicate materials and let it be washed. An extra tip is to add tennis balls inside. Afterward, place it in a dryer together with the balls. Always choose low heat program. In case the material can stand high heat, then you can select that program, and you will kill all dust mites at the same time. Don’t forget to fluff it every half an hour while it is drying. If it is warm enough outdoor, you can always hang it to complete the drying process.
For the end
If you maintain it regularly, it will serve you for years. There are a lot of benefits to using a comforter set. You just need to find the best material for the comforter set, which will meet all your needs.
