Everyone is aware of the fact that our dogs are animals that like to sneak around a garbage can. Sometimes they will flip it over and make chaos in the house or yard, and they will start eating or playing with the garbage from that same bin. When the damage has already been done, it is not uncommon to see the guilt on their face, that they knowingly did something they should not, but the urge of nature won. Our pets cannot think logically, so it is impossible for us to explain something in words. Gluttony, health problems, a deficiency of vitamins, a stressful life before you became the owner of that dog, or only boredom are all possible reasons why a dog likes to do all these naughty things.
Every time you get or buy a dog, keep in mind that it will need at least basic training for the dog to know what rules you have in your home, what is allowed and what is not allowed. People often make a mistake and start to train them when they are already grown. The easiest and fastest way to train your dog is when it is small and when it arrives at your home. If you have found, adopted, received or purchased an already adult dog, of course, it can also be trained, but the training will take much longer. Why is it like that? An adult dog has already acquired a variety of habits while growing up, and the dog’s temperament and character depend on the species, genetics, and conditions in which he or she grew up. With some dogs, cooperation is much more comfortable, while with others you will have to lose a ton of nerves until they learn or agree to learn what you want. In the end, every dog can be trained. Consistency, as well as patience, is paramount. Coaching is the process of training a dog to demonstrate acceptable canine behaviour in a variety of circumstances.
Basic training means necessary homeschooling, to learn how to ask to go to pee or poop, to come to you when you call its name, to sit, to lay down, to give you its paw, not to bite your furniture, to ignore the trash can and similar. The owner should teach his dog by himself. It is recommended to create a strong connection with the dog, if it is possible, before any serious training. Dog training instructors point out that the entire training is based on the owner having a good relationship with the dog. Everything is much easier to do when your dog trusts you. In terms of training, a dog can start with training when they are four to five months old.
When learning basic commands, the following is very important, never yell at your dog. Our dogs distinguish the colour of the tone we are addressing. When you yell at your pet, the pet will become stressed and accordingly, not focused on your training. It may start to ignore you or just the opposite, to show resistance. Stress adversely affects the health of our pets, in the same way, it affects us, humans. Then, address him in a different tone of voice when you want to praise him and when you want to teach him something. When you want to honour a dog, you can raise the tone you usually sound when you are happy and excited. And when you want to teach him something, use a calm tone and speak slowly to him, emphasizing his name. For example-Aki, no. Or-Aki, sit down. Or Aki-come. The first name, then command, in a clear, calm, and smooth tone.
Now that we have clarified how you need to approach your dog, the next step in training if you want your dog to stop playing with the trash can is a NO command. That is a universal command which can be used in many different situations. You can do this while using a piece of food or a ball for playing with dogs. When it comes to the first way, sit next to your dog, show him the little piece of food you keep in your hand. When your dog starts to get food from your fist, say the dog’s name and say NO, and close your fist quickly. The dog will show dissatisfaction and will probably try to get you food. You must stay consistent and quiet until the dog is calm. When the dog calms down, you can repeat the procedure. When the dog has mastered this, the next step is to hold the food in the palm of your hand and not close your fist. After that step, you can then throw the food on the floor, say the dogs name and tell him the command. You must follow this sequence and be patient. Once your dog has mastered this command, try applying it in front of the trash can. Start removing piece by piece of garbage clearly and loudly saying the command the dog has learned.
Try with the ball training if you like. Tie the rope to the ball because it is not recommended to remove the ball from the mouth of a non-trained dog. Throw the ball a few feet away and say the dog’s name and command no. On the same principle as in the method described above, the dog should master what it means that he should or should not touch something.
With some dogs, you will have to do these training sessions at different places, at different times for your dog to know that these rules do not apply only at your home.
The command we told you about can be excellent in many situations and will save you and your dog many unwanted troubles. A dog, however, is only an animal whose intellect is equal to a one or two-year-old child, and the animal’s urge is powerful. Maybe you just bought the best kitchen trash can. It will always be a challenge for your dog. Another way to help you do this is to learn how to keep garbage can from smelling in a garage because dogs are attracted by different scents. Also, it is vital to know how to secure garbage cans from blowing away because in that case, scattered garbage in the yard will be viewed by your dog as play toys.
